According to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Kingsville agents made the discovery when a motorist attempted to drive past the Javier Vega Jr. immigration checkpoint outside of Sarita.

Agents determined that the motorist and juvenile passenger were U.S. citizens, KZTV reported. A further investigation by agents revealed that the juvenile was registered with the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children database.

Deputies with the Kenedy County Sheriff’s Office took custody of the motorist, the juvenile, cash and the vehicle, according to the news release.

The juvenile was turned over to the Texas Juvenile Probation Office by deputies.
