A Cessna plane with 10 people on board has gone missing during a flight in western Alaska on Thursday, local and state officials said.

According to a dispatch from the Alaska Department of Public Safety, the Bering Air Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft was traveling from Unalakleet to Nome with nine passengers and a pilot.

Crews “are working to get to the last known coordinates,” the agency said.

According to a Facebook post by the Nome Fire Department, a ground search is being conducted from Nome and White Mountain.

“Due to weather and visibility, we are limited on air search at the current time,” fire officials said.

The National Guard and Coast Guard are assisting in the search, the agency said.

Data from FlightRadar showed a Bering Air flight last reporting info at 3:16 p.m. local time over the Norton Sound, KTUU reported.

White Mountain fire Chief Jack Adams, told the television station that the plane disappeared from the radar somewhere along the coast of Nome to Topkok. He also said they have crews actively searching a roughly 30-mile stretch in that area.

“They’re prepared to be out all night, they will search here until they find them or somebody else finds them,” Adams told KTUU. “If they don’t find anything, we’ll probably rally another crew to go and help.”

The plane’s location was still unknown as of early Friday morning, the fire department said in a 12:30 a.m. update.

U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska posted a message on X about the missing aircraft.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the passengers, their families and the rescue crew,” Sullivan said.

Unalakleet is located in western Alaska about 150 miles southeast of Nome and 395 miles northwest of Anchorage, The Associated Press reported.
